In addition, PhD candidates must take Algebraic Topology (110.615) and Riemannian Geometry (110.645) by their second year. The first-year algebra and analysis requirement can be satisfied by passing the corresponding written qualifying exam in September of the first year these students must complete at least two courses each semester.
